Alphabetware Tests 'Prefill' Tool for eBay Booksellers
By Edith Reynolds
August 27, 2004

Alphabetware.com is a site that sells auction management products for eBay sellers that is, at present, expanding their services by beta testing a new product developed by their subsidiary AAAseller.com. This eBay-related software will allow bulk loading that utilizes the prefill options.

Bookseller Gary Nargi contacted Bookologist with this news and as a participant in the beta testing, he reports that he is pleased with the results.

General Manager and owner of both Alphabetware.com and AAAseller.com, Gui Weinmann views eBay's prefill item as "useful for small business owners" and said his companies focus only on eBay products, trying to develop software that will allow sellers to better handle their uploads and management.

According to Weinmann, the new software doesn't have a name yet, but it is a field-driven product utilizing fields such as Catalog ID, ISBN number, Quantity on hand, Title, Description, and duration. As Gary Nargi of Bowerybay.com commends, "this is a good tool for booksellers who use eBay."

Pricing is anticipated to be at the mid-level range.

The product development began last year and is anticipated to hit the market this fall. Much of their newest projects are built upon the "bare bones power lister" that most sellers need, according to Weinmann.

Why eBay only?

Weinmann says that his earliest clients for ecommerce sites were companies like Microwarehouse.com and Netgrocer.com. With the dip in Internet ecommerce stocks, this area of development was drying up so Weinmann turned to something he loved - eBay.

"I do love Ebay," he says. "I've been doing it since 1997." And it is through his experience as a seller that he knew the products he sells through Alphabetware and the features like zoom pics are useful tools for the serious seller.

He may have been doing eBay since '97, but this 34-year-old developer has been programming since he was 11. "I graduated with a Bachelors from the University of PA in psychology and I quickly learned that you can't get by in business without knowing something about computers. I learned that at my first real job."

And so he combined his natural inclinations, his experience in business, and his respect for those close to him to lead him into the world of developing software for online sellers.

His interest in bookseller tools stems from his interest in his girlfriend who is a librarian who understands the unique needs booksellers have with regard to selling online. "For booksellers, the zoom pics would be useful for closing in on author's signatures," he explains.

Like other small software companies, this one has to rely on customer satisfaction, and so a good deal of time is spent perfecting the software. "This newest product is just getting off the ground and we're using a core base of customers to try it out."

Gary Nargi is always seeking better ways to conduct his business and saw the AAAsoftware logo on someone's Ebay listing and called the company. "Gary was already efficient," Weinmann explained, but saw this bookseller as a good candidate to test a large inventory of books.

What Weinmann hopes the future will hold is "connecting with people with a large quantity with limitless supply and hooking them up with a database for books, CDs, DVDs, and other items with a wonderful set of prefill items."
