Edith promised to answer this letter in the last issue, here's the letter again followed by Edith's answer.
Good morning,
Here is a topic to get your teeth into, I wanted a book but could not find in UK where I live but found a copy in U.S.A. Client says buy so I do, it now it gets interesting. The book takes 3 to 6 weeks to arrive that's fine. But when I check, it comes from a dealer in UK.
I contact said dealer to ask about this, as I would have got book within 2-3 days from him. His answer, the people in the States insist the book is sent over there to them, they then ship BACK to UK. Now can anyone explain the mentality of this. Through this the two companies in the States have lost any business I might have with them. The book trade has enough bad publicity without getting more because of incidents like this. If I have to buy from abroad, I do, but from now on only with dealers I have dealt with before.
Keep up the good work, even though half of what you publish is as I said before applicable to the booktrade in the U.S.A I still enjoy reading it & get some good snippets.
Regards,
Nick Quinn

Answer:
I contacted a dealer in New Jersey who also sells books in the United Kingdom and asked him why this would have happened. His answer was short and to the point: The short of it is the dealer who had it shipped from the UK and sent it back to the UK is not too bright. It should have been drop-shipped from the UK dealer to his UK customer.
It sounds like the dealer you bought from was disorganized and hasn't approached the process with expediency in mind.

=============
Hi Edith,
I'd like to welcome you aboard and wish you good luck with the Bookologist. I've only recently subscribed to The Bookologist and have thoroughly enjoyed the articles. My part-time hobby is, of course, old books. I started out because I just love to read, but having now acquired so many books, I have been selling them on eBay and garage sales. More recently, I have been trying to buy and collect signed editions of books from the authors I most admire. I was wondering if you or any of your readers would know of a distributor of book supplies for us novice collectors? I have been looking particularly for clear book covers to protect dustjackets and labels to attach to books which say "Signed Copy".
Answer:
Two of the best known suppliers of clear dust jacket protectors is Brodart.com and Highsmith.com .
