Letters to the Editor
By Edith Reynolds
September 24, 2003

Good morning,
Here is a topic to get your teeth into, I wanted a book but could not find in UK where I live but found a copy in U.S.A. client says buy so I do, it now it gets interesting. The book takes 3 to 6 weeks to arrive that's fine. But when I check, it comes from a dealer in UK.

I contact said dealer to ask about this, as I would have got book within 2-3 days from him. His answer, the people in the States insist the book is sent over there to them, they then ship BACK to UK. Now can anyone explain the mentality of this. Through this the two companies in the states have lost any business I might have with them. The book trade has enough bad publicity without getting more because of incidents like this. If I have to buy from abroad, I do, but from now on only with dealers I have dealt with before.

Keep up the good work, even though half of what you publish is as I said before applicable to the booktrade in the U.S.A I still enjoy reading it & get some good snippets.

Regards,
Nick Quinn
A.K.A the weird bookman

Answer: This is an excellent question and I have forwarded it to an ABAA bookseller who also has a sister company in the UK. We will publish what we find in the next issue.
