The Bookologist, Number 4 - May 07, 2003 - ISSN 1544-1997

From the Editor

"April 26-30. BIG Sale. Gainesville. Largest Book Sale of its kind in Florida. Over 250,000 Items!"

Sound tempting? If you've seen these mega-sales advertised on Book Sale Finder http://www.booksalefinder.com and ever wondered what they might be like, you'll be happy to hear that the Bookologist made just such a trip in late April. We not only survived the experience intact, but also lived to file a detailed, illustrated report, complete with an accounting of how much we spent and hope to make in return.

As promised, our book anatomy series continues in this issue with a look at boards - the hard covers of books. This is followed by some practical advice on how to correct warped boards. Got clamps?

Our Letters to the Editor department is launched with a lament from a book buyer who raises issues similar to those the Bookologist encountered in Gainesville, i.e., moshing in the book pit. Only this time, it's obnoxious behavior at an estate sale. This letter will be posted in the Bookologist's forum later today for further discussion.

Work on the resources page continues behind the scenes http://www.bookologist.com/cab/pages/resources. The revised format will be more intuitive to navigate and will include dozens of pertinent additions. Also, explanatory annotations will be included with each link so you won't be clicking into the dark unknown. Look for changes soon.

Finally, if you haven't stopped by the Bookologist's Library recently, discussions have branched out into many useful areas http://www.bookologist.com/forum/phpBB2/index.php. It never ceases to amaze us how a group of minds coming together can produce so much more than the sum of its parts. No matter how much or how little expertise you have, we think you'll discover a rich source of bookselling knowledge here.
